Doctors and alternative practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) regularly use a range of around 250 herbal and mineral substances, which are individually combined for patients and produced as customised individual products at Complemedis.
Complemedis offers doctors and alternative practitioners a wide range of remedies in the form of granules and dried herbs. The over one thousand remedies in our range come from suppliers in China, Taiwan and Europe and are tested in Switzerland according to the strictest criteria for identity and purity. It is important to know that all the herbs used at Complemedis are tested by our analytical laboratory for correct identity and purity according to all the rules of the art, which - it is hard to believe - is unfortunately not a matter of course in this country. With Complemedis, you can be sure that you are not taking herbs that are adulterated or contaminated with pesticides, heavy metals or mould. Complemedis only deals with ethically and ecologically safe substances. We strictly adhere to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, CITES for short, which guarantees sustainable international trade.
The granules are usually dissolved in warm or hot water and drunk in small sips. Some people prefer to put the granules dry in their mouth and rinse with warm water. If necessary, cold water can also be used if there is no hot water available.
You do not need to boil granule mixtures, as valuable substances could be destroyed.
The dosage of TCM granules does not have to be in the milligram range. If you are unable to adhere to it (work, job, absence...), then make sure that you roughly reach the daily dose. Minimum and maximum doses can be very far apart: Some people are sensitive and feel a good effect from a much lower dose, while others need massively more. You are sure to find the right individual dose for you. Discuss this with the prescribing TCM specialist. They can then adjust the dosage for a future prescription if necessary.
For therapies that are intended for a longer period of time (e.g. several weeks), it is more important that the entire amount is taken in approximately the estimated time. It may happen that a dose is missed or that you skip a whole day. As a rule, however, this does not diminish the success of the therapy. It simply occurs a little later. If exact timing is necessary, your TCM specialist will tell you. It is important for women who wish to have children, for example, as the TCM remedy is tailored to the different phases of the menstrual cycle. Of course, timing is also important before top sporting performances or, for example, in the situation before exams in the case of test anxiety or stage fright.
Granules are a concentrate made from dried herbs that have been boiled with water and consist of small powder-like granules. This ensures that the extract remains stable for a long time and is protected against humidity and clumping, thus reducing quality. For granulation, manufacturers usually require the excipient maize starch, more rarely maltodextrin.
The prescribing TCM specialist will give you instructions on how to cook and dose.
If the preparation of the raw drugs has not been prescribed otherwise, the following instructions can be followed:
Brewing phase: Place the contents of a sachet in a stainless steel or ceramic pan and pour cold water over it. Leave to infuse for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight if possible.
(30 g of raw drugs usually require approx. 200-300 ml of water)
Cooking phase: If the infused raw drugs have absorbed so much water that they are no longer covered, add more water accordingly
1st pass: Bring the water to the boil and simmer the raw drugs in the pan without a lid for 20-30 minutes on a low heat. Then sieve the decoction and set aside.
2nd pass: Add about the same amount of water as when soaking to the already boiled raw drugs, bring to the boil again and simmer for another 20-30 minutes without a lid on a low heat.
Pour the decoction through a sieve again and combine with the decoction from the first round.
Consumption: The dosage depends on the prescription.
The first cup of decoction can be drunk immediately after preparation. Further portions should be warmed before taking.
Storage: If stored correctly, the decoction can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.
Raw drugs are the classic galenic form of TCM, to which the majority of textbooks refer. Decoctions made from crude drugs are said to be the most effective.
In addition to the use of acupuncture and/or internally administered herbal formulas, those who work with TCM also want to use them for external application. If you don't want to use ready-made products, but rather have a freshly prepared ointment, cream, lotion or gel made for a patient's individual situation, there is a range of remedies available that are suitable for treating skin diseases with the respective syndrome pattern. In some cases, the sole application of an external remedy is even sufficient to remedy a skin problem.
TCM specialists can enter patient-specific ointment prescriptions quickly and easily in our Compleweb ordering software.
